Christmas Fun

Here are some little treats I made for gift giving during this holiday season.

First, Russian Tea Mix in small Mason jars. Russian Tea is a mixture of Tang drink mix, lemonade mix, instant tea, sugar, clove, cinammon, and nutmeg. Mix a few tablespoons with hot water and you've got a great drink!

The holiday paisley fabric and jars were from Hobby Lobby and the white (Martha Stewart) tags and gold stretchy ribbon were from Michaels.
Second, I made some chocolate cake pops for my preschool class and then made some extras for a few friends.

International Cake Pops

A friend of mine recently asked me to make cake pops as favors for a baby shower she was putting together. She wanted them to have an international flair since the mother-to-be is a native of Brazil. First I thought of making a large arrangement, but then we decided to do individual favors that could easily be taken home with each guest. She pretty much let me do whatever I thougt was best, so here's what I came up with...

I made 42 cake pops and coated them to coordinate with the colors of the American and Brazilian flags. While the coating was still wet on the outside, I heavily coated them with white sanding sugar. Styrofoam was cut to fit each box and glued in the bottom just to make it more sturdy. I used spanish moss as the filler. The little boxes were from a set of wedding favors I purchased at Hobby Lobby. They were a great deal, especially with that 40% coupon! I printed mini flags from my computer, glued them onto 4 inch skewers and inserted them into each box with the cake pops. I LOVE them!

Baby Shower Centerpiece

A while back I made this cake pop bouquet for a friend's baby shower. I don't have many photos, but I think you'll be able to get an idea of how it looked. Something like this makes a great centerpiece at a baby shower, birthday party, or bridal shower.

I made a bunch of pops on short sticks and then for the tall ones, I just used longer sticks and used a candy letter mold to spell out, "WELCOME BABY CALEB". They are stuck on to the cake pops with a little dab of melted chocolate.

I can't wait to make something like this again!

What's white, black, and pink all over?

It's my newest cake pop bouquet! I made these for a project and wanted to share them with you.

I think they are pretty cute myself. I made chocolate and yellow cake pops again, but this time I used CHOCOLATE BUTTERCREAM for the chocolate cake. They were much better and I think I'll do it this way from now on.

I hope the people I made these for really enjoy them.

Cake Pop Arrangements Part 3 of 3

Here's the last arrangement from my project. I didn't have a plan for this and really just started mixing colors until I came up with this dark pink. Then I thought that I'd do a girly theme, so I made the purple ones. After that I really didn't know what type of container I'd put them in so I just left them alone for a day. So then I went to Hobby Lobby to get more supplies and came across this little yellow pot. It had perfect pink and purple dots that matched the pops I had already made. I snagged that little pot and came home to make coordinating blue pops too.

I think this would be cute as a gift for a young girl or anyone who likes crazy dots!
Please forgive the lighting, I'm not a pro. :)

Cake Pop Arrangements Part 2 of 3

As I continued my project, I decided to use the same colors and just use a different pot. This arrangement could be used as a gift for someone or even as the centerpiece on tables at a baby shower or wedding shower. The possibilities are endless!

See the chocolatey center?

Cake Pop Arrangements Part 1 of 3

So, the other day I wanted to make some more cake pops, but just for fun. I got some supplies and went to work. This time I made two cakes (from scratch) and used buttercream icing. I made a devil's food cake and a classic yellow cake. They were both pretty good without anything added. So, I had envisioned a cake pop topiary tree. Maybe you've seen the ones they have out for Easter with the little eggs in them. Well, I thought it'd be a great idea. Unfortunately, I must not have planned very well because my styrofoam ball was too big. Instead of a topiary, I just made an arrangement with half the ball. Here is the result.

The pictures aren't as great as my previous post because I used my own camera, but I think it did a decent job for a point and shoot!

What Are Cake Pops?

For those of you who haven't tried cake pops, let me explain what they are a little bit.

First, you bake a cake from a box or scratch. After it cools, you mix icing with the cake - I use a mixer. After it comes to the right consistency, I roll the cake into balls. They firm up in the fridge for a little bit and then comes the fun part! After inserting the lollipop sticks, you'll take each ball and dip it into candy melts. You can use any color or flavor. The most common are chocolate and vanilla. Flavorings are also available, but I haven't tried them yet. You can also color the white (vanilla) candy melts to make your own colors. After dipping, they harden up in the fridge again. Sometimes I put sprinkles on them while they're still wet and sometimes I drizzle some melted candy melts/chocolate on top. They are a little time consuming, but a lot of fun and so far everyone seems to like them a lot. I look forward to making new arrangements and experimenting with other flavors.

Teacher Treats

Last week I was asked to make a dessert for the teachers' luncheon at my church's day school. I couldn't wait to make more cake pops, so I jumped at the opportunity. I had to think of a way for each of them to get a treat, so here's what I came up with...

Blog Beginning

I started this blog to document all the various projects I work on. Lately, I've been making cake pops. Never heard of them? Well, let me tell you that they are a lot of fun - to eat, to make, to share! Please feel free to leave your feedback. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.
